A Weekend With an Audi A8 L

I had a bit of a treat last weekend, as I got to drive a 2012 Audi A8 L 4.2. I write up a bit of a novella on my blog...

For various reasons, the past month or so has been pretty brutal when it came to stress, frustration, eating even more into what was supposed to be time away from work, and so on. I knew that I needed a weekend where I can forget about work and let the pent up stress and frustration melt mostly away. With that, I was able to work out a weekend loaner from Audi Wilsonville for an Audi A8 for this past weekend.

Initially, the plan was to pick up the A8 from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! during my lunch hour. I left work and went down there roughly when the A8 would have been available. Unfortunately, the A8 would not be available to be picked up until that night. So, back to work I went. I tried to leave work a bit earlier to beat the rush hour traffic; but, that wasn’t meant to be. When I was able to leave work, I headed down I-5 and the rather slow pace of traffic became stop-and-go funnage for 5 miles. Let’s just say that my whole left leg (particularly, the knee and ankle) got into an argument with the clutch. I was absolutely relieved with I got down to Audi Wilsonville to see the A8 parked up front. What I didn’t notice immediately as I was driving in was that it was an A8 L with a 4.2-litre V8. Excellent!

How fo you manage to get a car for the weekend from a dealer?

By special arrangement and knowing a few key people who work there. It's not the first time I've worked out a weekend loaner with them.

Some of the visits is due to them me know that they have an exclusive Audi and give me an opportunity to do a photo shoot. So yeah, it's a nice relationship of sorts :)

Absolutely and I am extremely chuffed that I've been gotten such opportunities. I just need to see if I could do the same with the other RT dealers in the area.

You might be able to do so with Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo (Ferrari, Maserati). A few of the kids go there sometimes just to take pictures.

Yeah, that's next on my plate... but will probably wait until after Frankfurt (IAA) as I have other projects to work on. Now if only I could go to Frankfurt for the auto show :)

I had an A8L for a week last summer to do a review. Absolutely loved the car, and the B&O sound system was incredible. Only way to make that car better IMHO is the A8 TDI coming this year.

The B&O sound system is definitely incredible and something that I've experienced in an A7 and a Q7. I really can't wait to drive an A8 TDI as I think that's the engine to get if your fuel conscious or just love diesels in general. For pep, there's the 4.0TFSI. :)
